External channels
Continue Email, Messaging, and Slack conversations in endOS with their source details and agent context intact.
External channels are conversations that start outside endOS through Email, Messaging, or Slack, then continue in the channel dock.
They use the channel type external and access scope external. Messages from remote participants may have a sender_kind of external. When you open channel details, a source-specific section appears instead of, or alongside, the standard membership information.
Email channels
The Email section shows two contact rows:
- You — the remote sender address
- Endstack — the instance inbox address in the form
{slug}@endstack.co
An incoming email can trigger the agent only when its sender is on the Approved senders list. See Email for setup and sender approval.
Messaging channels
The Messaging section shows pairing and phone contact rows for you and for the agent's Messaging line. Depending on the conversation, that line can use iMessage, RCS, or SMS.
Slack channels
The Slack section shows the Slack-side identity and workspace linkage for the thread. These details apply to mentions or direct messages that reach the agent after the Slack connection and user pairing are complete.
Agent behavior
External messages can start or continue agent runs, subject to your autonomy and approval settings.
The channel's Channel Context continues to guide the agent for the external thread. Disable Proactive Agent Responses also applies: when the control is on, it prevents unsolicited replies and requires an explicit @endstack mention for a response.
Set up an external channel
- Configure the service under Settings → Integrations.
- Pair your identity using the method for that service: an approved sender, phone pairing, or Slack pairing code.
- Message the agent from Email, Messaging, or Slack.
- Open Channels in endOS to continue the thread.
Each service has its own connection and identity requirements:
- Email covers the instance inbox and Approved senders.
- Messaging covers phone pairing and the Messaging line.
- Slack covers the Slack connection and user pairing.
